Marta and Luis enrolled in the Healthy Families program when Marta was pregnant with Maya. In addition to the stresses they faced as an immigrant family, Marta struggled with her mental health. The Home Visitor met with the family, guiding Marta and Luis in identifying their strengths and setting goals to improve both their family unity and their situation. Marta and Luis worked hard in the program, being proactive in accessing recommended resources, thriving and reaching their goals. The couple practiced and utilized new parenting strategies to create discipline in a loving but effective way.
When Maya was diagnosed with autism, the Home Visitor helped Marta and Luis create a connection with Autism Support staff to understand her diagnosis and how best to help her through her early development. Through their dedicated efforts, and with the support of their Home Visitor, Maya flourished. And when Marta shared her ongoing struggle with depression, her Home Visitor helped her work through the cultural stigma that was holding her back from counseling. Marta was able to begin seeing a mental health provider virtually, and is working through the Mother and Babies curriculum with her Home Visitor. After just a few weeks, Marta had already begun seeing improvement in her coping skills. Thank you to our Healthy Families program and the huge difference you make in our community’s well-being.
